It must just be something about this film. I rented it on VHS around 99-00 and I vividly remember the first scene and absolutely nothing else about it.

I similarly rented it when it first hit home video, remember the opener (though not that nearly the entire team was wiped out) and... that's about it. I do remember kinda/sorta liking it, but obviously not enough to seek it out again over the last 18/19 years.

I also knew they made a sequel starring Jon Bon Hairspray, but had no idea they made a third one.

Listening to you all, I agree there's more than enough good material in there to make this prime remake material, and in the process make this eligible for I love/Hate Remakes.

It's interesting how Vampires does have its dedicated fans, but even much of their focus seems to be squarely on what's in that opening sequence. You don't hear much talk about the rest of the film.
